Medical mattresses are a revolutionary invention in the world of healthy and comfortable sleeping for individuals of all ages. Designed to provide the best medical and wellness support, medical mattresses are built to provide excellent comfort, safety, and healing to patients during therapy or treatment. Comfortable sleep often evades people undergoing treatment as the medications, pain, and discomfort can be a major hindrance in achieving a comfortable sleep. Medical mattresses help bridge this gap by providing great comfort for the user in both mental and physical ways thus offering a therapeutic experience to the user at all times.
What are the Types of Medical Mattresses?
Medical mattresses are divided into 7 different categories based on the material they are built with and the function they offer:
Foam Medical Mattresses – One of the most common medical mattresses in the market, foam medical mattresses, as the name suggests, are built with medical-grade foam. They are an amazing cost effective solution to back pain, stiffness, and allergy problems. They are designed with hypoallergenic materials to ensure that the user doesn’t suffer from major allergies during their use.
Water-Gel Medical Mattresses – Built using water or gel as a filling within the mattress, these medical mattresses provide a comforting and cooling experience for the user. They are designed to give optimum protection from pressure ulcers by equally distributing the pressure of the sleeper over the mattress.
Alternating Pressure Medical Mattresses – Designed for long term use, alternating pressure mattresses adjust the air pressure within them according to the size and the movements of the user. They are designed to prevent any kind of bed sores or ulcers. There are bladders within the medical mattress that inflate and deflate according to the pressure exerted over the mattress by the user.
Innerspring Medical Mattresses – As the name suggests, these medical mattresses have an innerspring installed inside the mattress which provides great comfort and movement space and flexibility to the user. They are either covered with foam or fibers and are a great option increased durability and optimal comfort.
Combination Therapy Medical Mattresses– Combination therapy refers to the use of two therapies namely, lateral rotation air therapy and alternating pressure therapy in one mattress. They are designed for patients who need constant repositioning while in bed while protecting them from the risks of bed sores and pressure ulcers.
Lateral Rotation Medical Mattresses– Excellent for bed-ridden patients, they are designed for constant movement and repositioning. The lateral rotation feature of these medical mattresses allows for quick and easy lateral rotation of the patient at all times. They also protect from bed sores, pressure ulcers, and infections due to continuous use of the bed.
Low Air Loss Medical Mattresses– Designed using air cells within the mattress, they protect the user from maceration, bed sores, infections, and breakdown of the skin. The continuous movement of air within the mattress when the patient moves within the bed results in lesser friction and thus reducing discomfort and making it easier for the patient to sleep with peace.
How to Choose the Best Medical Mattress?
There are three major things one should look into before choosing the best medical mattress for their needs. They are:
Size – Different medical mattresses come in different sizes based on their uses and their material. The thing you need to ensure is that the mattress you choose is longer and wider than the individual that would use the mattress. You can find different size options in almost all types of medical mattresses.
Health Status – Depending on the condition of the patient, one can choose the best medical mattress for them. If the patient is bed ridden for a long time, opting for a combination therapy mattress or an alternating pressure mattress is the right choice. If you are looking for a temporary solution to short treatment periods, foam or innerspring mattresses can be used.
Patient Condition – Patient condition refers to the patient being bedridden, the patient moving in and out of the bed consistently, the patient having restricted mobility or the patient is prone to falling or slipping. Different medical mattresses can be the solution for either of these problems. Choose the best medical mattress according to the condition of the patient.

How to install Med-Aire Low Air Loss Mattress and Pump System?
Place the mattress flatly on the bed frame. The inflation tube should be towards the foot end so that it can be connected to the inflation nozzles on the pump.
You may place a thin cotton sheet over the quilted mattress top cover.
Hang the pump over the frame or board at the foot end of the bed using the “hangers” on the back of the pump. Make sure the pump is secured.
Connect the inflation tubes from the mattress to the pump’s inflating nozzles. Make sure they are properly attached. NOTE! Make sure the air hoses are not kinked or tucked under the mattress. Also check to ensure the CPR valve is properly attached.
Plug the power cord into an electrical outlet with grounded AC power. This product should be grounded! The power cord has a grounding wire with a grounding pin. This three-wire plug must be plugged properly into an outlet and grounded as shown in the figure in the Grounding Instructions section.
Note: Before inserting the plug into the outlet, make sure the voltage is compatible. Also, make sure this product is well-grounded.
Turn on the power by pressing the power switch at the right side of the pump. Proceed to the Operation section.
Make sure to disconnect the pump by unplugging the power cord when it is not in use.

Proactive Protekt 500 Gel Infused Foam Pressure Redistribution Mattress has Visco Gel Polymer Technology (VGPT) which is a revolutionary support surface that provides unprecedented pressure redistribution, rapid heat dissipation, and vast increases in breathability compared to traditional foam. The heel slope redistributes pressure from the heel to the entire leg while the precision-cut air pockets allow deeper submersion and increased air circulation.
Features of Proactive Protekt 500 Gel Infused Foam Pressure Redistribution Mattress
VGPT is open-cell Visco Memory foam infused with gel Polymers
Designed for clinical superiority as well as patient comfort, some of the many benefits of VGPT include:
Reduced occurrence of pressure sores by channeling heat away from the body significantly faster than traditional foam, virtually eliminating perspiration
Superior pressure redistribution is delivered by providing more support and less cradling at higher levels of compression, redistributing pressure over a large surface area eliminating static fatigue
Protects vulnerable heel area with the patented Lure-Quilt foam and a 30 degree slope redistributing pressure to the entire leg and away from the heel
Provides unparalleled pressure mapping results
Designed to guard the vulnerable heel area from incapacitating reoccurring pressure ulcers
Heel section of the Protekt500 utilizes a 30 degree slope to redistribute pressure to the entire lower leg
Top layer is finished with Lura-Quilt, a patented, highly resilient aerated foam, keeping skin cool and dry
Reduce risk of falls and increase patient safety by providing a firm perimeter for egress and ingress.
Rails are 3 inches high with a 24 inch cutout.
Visco Gel Polymer Technology works by allowing air to pass through open cells, channeling it away from the body instead of trapping it within the closed cells of standard memory foam
The infusion of gel polymers throughout the foam contributes both cooling properties and the virtual elimination of static fatigue
As a result of the alliance between open cell foam and gel infusion, the Protekt 500 holds its shape better, redistributes pressure over a larger surface area, and successfully channels heat away from the body, keeping patients cool, dry, and comfortable

An enema is used for many reasons.Just as there are many reasons, there are different types of enemas, each of which contains different ingredients and works differently in the body. While some may choose an enema to soften stool or for routine colon cleansing, the reason for using an enema may have more of a medical necessity.
Cervical traction is a technique applied to the cervical region of the body to help alleviate neck pain, discomfort, and other physical conditions related to the cervical region.Cervical traction works by stressing the neck, pulling, and pushing, thus reducing the pressure on the spine, the neck, and the upper torso.Excessive stress on the neck, spine, and upper region, due to a wide range of conditions or injuries can cause severe pain and can lead to other complications.Cervical traction devices help alleviates these conditions thus offering overall body rehabilitation and treatment options.
