Hydrocolloid dressings have polysaccharides and polymers that initiate water absorption to form sodium carboxymethyl cellulose directly on the wound to enhance healing.

2. Hydrogel Dressings

High-water-content gels provide moisture to dry wounds and support autolytic debridement. Hydrogel dressings rehydrate the wound, break down dead tissue, maintain the natural ph balance of the skin, and help to develop new cells in the affected area. A cooling agent within the dressing provides comfort and pain relief.  

Hydrogels are a type of wound dressings commonly used for unusually painful or necrotic wounds, second-degree burns, and radiation-damaged skin. These dressings stimulate healthy new cells by creating a moist wound environment.

 

3. Alginate Dressings 

Made of seaweed, these dressings are used mainly for wounds with excessive drainage and are very useful for wounds with irregular contours. Sodium and calcium alginate fibers form a gel-like substance that increases the absorbency of the wound by 20 times its weight and helps to remove dead tissue from the wound bed. 

Alginate dressings are used only for high drainage wounds and need to be changed frequently to prevent dryness, infection and to maintain skin moisture. This type of dressing for wounds is used for surgical purposes, heavy bleeding, and partial-thickness burns.

4. Foam Dressings 

This type of dressing provides a cushion for wounds with hydrophilic foam material which absorbs heavy discharge and relieves pain. 5. Collagen Dressings

This type of dressing for wounds is best for transplant surgery sites, pressure sores, surgical wounds, and severe injuries.

6. Transparent Dressings
