Plantar Fasciitis: Products That Can Help

Plantar Fasciitis: Products That Can Help
Kevin Cleary

Some of the best advice I have been received was “wear comfortable shoes” and they were 100% correct. Pain in our feet and make even the smallest activity almost unbearable. Our feet are the foundation on which we live our lives every day. If our feet experience pain, any movement or activity can be hindered and even can lead to instability and a potential fall. Plantar fasciitis results in pain in our feet and heels that can be debilitating and we here at HPFY can lead you to some products that can help you overcome this injury.

Plantar fasciitis

Plantar…what?

Plantar fasciitis may not be a household name, but for those who suffer from it are fully aware of what painful effects it can have on your life. The tissue or ligament that connects our heel to the toes (plantar fascia) can become inflamed, resulting in pain in our heel area. This is a relatively common injury affecting more than 3 million people in the US each year. This pain can last for several days or weeks and can be more common in females, but men are not immune to this injury. Heel pain is the most common symptom associated with plantar fasciitis, but other symptoms include:

  • Pain and stiffness in the morning that gets worse as the day goes on
  • Pain when climbing stairs or when stepping on your toes
  • Pain from standing over a period of time

This injury is caused by excessive stretching of the plantar fascia ligament and this can be due to several factors including overuse, poor footwear or going barefoot, aging and obesity, and occupation such as policeman, factory workers, or even teachers who are required to be on their feet for long periods of time. Now you know how this injury got the name “policeman’s heel.” Flat feet or a high arch can also contribute to inflammation of the plantar fascia ligament, as well as an abnormal walking gait that negatively affects the way you distribute weight during walking.

7 Plantar Fasciitis Products That Ease Pain

If your feet hurt due to plantar fasciitis, there is help. Your physical therapist may show you some stretching exercises you can do to help get your plantar fascia ligament better. Another course of action your doctor or therapist may prescribe is the use of NSAIDs, such as naproxen sodium or ibuprofen for pain and inflammation. You may want to try some medical aids in order to minimize the impact on this ligament and help reduce pain. Some options you may want to try can include:

  1. FLA Orthopedics Soft Point Silicone Heel Cushion with Dot: Made from medical grade silicone for support and comfort, these cushions give optimal shock absorption that is generated from the everyday beating our heels take. The blue spot in the center of the cushion has a softer profile to help relieve pressure and pain in your plantar fascia area.
  2. ITA-MED Universal Plantar Fasciitis Night Stretch Splint: The lightweight, low-profile shell of this splint applies a gentle and consistent stretch to your plantar fascia by holding your foot in a neutral position and has an anti-slip sole for added traction and safety. The shell is lined with a foam laminate and has release buckles for simple and easy removal.
  3. Silipos TheraStep Plantar Fasciitis Arch Sleeve: This simple to use sleeve contains a massaging gel for comfort and support for a wide variety of foot ailments that include plantar fasciitis or bone spurs that can be associated with plantar fasciitis. The gel pad prevents the foot from rolling over while reducing strain on and ligaments under your foot.
  4. Vasyli Hoke Supination Control Orthotic: In order to keep your foot in the proper alignment, these orthotics deal with the complex and challenging Pes Cavus foot types. They are designed for those who walk with too much supination and are ideal for walking and everyday use, even in athletic footwear or custom fit shoes.

  1. Elginex Elgin Archxerciser Foot Exerciser: An exerciser designed to provide resistance for foot exercises used in the clinical rehab of the arch and foot, this aid gives patients relief from pain in your foot by strengthening intrinsic and extrinsic musculature of the foot. It can be used to treat foot ailments ranging from plantar fasciitis to heel spur syndrome.
  2. Roylan Plantar Fasciitis Support: Designed to provide support, pain relief, and promote healing, this hook and loop support is excellent for personal or professional use. It can be worn with your everyday shoes and provide support to your arch for long-term use and comfort.
  3. Profoot Triad Orthotic Sole: These orthotic inserts provide three zones of support and relief, while keeping your feet in line with the rest of your body so that your walking gait doesn’t put uneven pressure on your plantar fascia ligament.

Plantar fasciitis is a common injury that can be very painful and a major nuisance to your everyday well-being. Your doctor or physical therapist can give you great feedback on the type of plantar fasciitis medical aid that may benefit you the most. Be compliant and diligent in order to expedite the healing from your aching heels so you can be out on the dance floor faster!!
