How do you use a Voldyne 5000 Incentive Spirometer?

  1. Remove components from package. Attach open end of tubing to stem at front side of exerciser.
  2. Slide the yellow pointer to prescribed milliliter level. Hold or stand exerciser in an upright position.
  3. Exhale normally. Then place lips tightly around mouthpiece.
  4. Inhale slowly to raise the white piston in the chamber. When inhaling maintain top of the yellow flow cup in the best flow range.
  5. Continue inhaling and try to raise piston to prescribed level. When inhalation is complete, remove mouthpiece from mouth, hold breath as prescribed and exhale normally. Allow piston to return to bottom of chamber, rest and repeat exercise.

How do I find a new mouthpiece to replace my old one? The Hudson RCI universal mouthpiece does not have the low resistance and I cant use it?  Also it does not fit securely in the tubing.  Thank you

Steps to clean Hudson RCI Voldyne 5000 Volumetric Exerciser:

1. Clean the mouthpiece and hose with soap and water after use (you may use antiseptic mouthwash in place of soap and water)
2. Rinse thoroughly
3. Dry by shaking or with paper towel

You will need to use the device every one to two hours, or as directed by your nurse, doctor, or respiratory therapist. On the Voldyne 5000, the standard mouthpiece is meant to be a permanent one. Use this mouthpiece each time you use the device. If you switch to a disposable mouthpiece, though, you should not use the same one for more than 24 hours. When cleaning it with soap and water, you must make sure to rinse away all soap before using the spirometer again.

For care of Hudson RCI Voldyne 5000 Volumetric Exerciser, rinse mouthpiece after each use and shake dry. Replace unit in this bag when not in use. When the Voldyne Exerciser is placed on table between uses, mouthpiece end of tubing can be placed in notch at top of device.
