Ice Packs

Ice packs or gel packs are portable plastic bags filled with water or refrigerant gel. They are kept in the household freezers to freeze the contents before use. The high latent heat of fusion of water makes the ice and other non-toxic refrigerants absorb a large amount of heat before warming up. These cold packs decrease pain, swelling, and inflammation and provide short-term relief to sprains, strains, minor injuries, and post surgery. Their compact size makes them easy to use anytime and anywhere. At Health Products For You, we offer a wide range of ice packs from top-selling manufacturers such as Medline, Cardinal Health, Chattaooga, and many more @ attractive prices!

Types of Ice Packs

There are two different types of ice packs, namely relief instant ice packs and hot or cold packs.
  • Instant Cold Pack: Instant cold packs are ready to use with a firm squeeze and a gentle shake and do not need any refrigeration prior to use. They contain two bags; the inner one containing water and the outer one containing urea, ammonium nitrate, or calcium ammonium nitrate. The package is squeezed to pop the inner package so that the water dissolves the solid. An endothermic reaction takes place here. This reaction absorbs heat from the surroundings and lowers the temperature of the pack, providing proper cold therapy.
  • Hot-or-Cold Packs: Unlike instant cold packs, hot and cold packs need to be chilled in a refrigerator or heated in hot water or a microwave prior to use. They hold the acquired temperature well and provide the required hot or cold therapy. These cool packs are known to provide relief from pain, swelling and inflammation.
