Silvercel Antimicrobial Alginate Dressing

Key Features:

  • Alginate Dressing forms a gel on contact with exudate, making the dressing suitable for minor bleeding wounds and infected wounds
  • Minimizes the leakage and risk of maceration
  • Proven to absorb and retain fluid even under compression
  • Designed not to break up in the wound
  • Maintains strength within a moist wound environment

How Silvercel Antimicrobial Dressing Works?

Silvercel Antimicrobial Dressing provides effective antimicrobial protection along with promoting a favorable moist wound environment. Unique composition of Silvercel Antimicrobial Dressing combines the moisture management properties of alginate and CMC with the broad-spectrum antimicrobial action of silver ions within the dressing.

Antimicrobial action: Silvercel Antimicrobial Dressing provides a sustained release of silver ions within itself for more than 7 days. This provides an effective antimicrobial protection for the entire wear time, depending on the level of exudate. Systagenix Silvercel Dressing is effective against more than 150 wound pathogens, including MRSE, MRSA, VRE, Pseudomonas aeruginosa, Streptococcus pyogenes, Escherichia Coli, Klebsiella pneumoniae and Candida albicans.

High Absorbency: Unique composition of the dressing manages exudate in moderate-to-heavily exuding wounds. This promotes an optimal healing environment for effective wound management. Silvercel Antimicrobial Dressing provides excellent fluid handling capacity even under compression.

Tensile strength: Tensile strength of the dressing increases by 56% when in contact with wound exudate as compared to dry, allowing for intact removal.

Indications for Use:

Silvercel Antimicrobial Dressing is intended for use in the management of almost all moderate to heavily exuding partial and full-thickness chronic wounds, including:
  • Diabetic foot ulcers
  • Venous leg ulcers
  • Pressure ulcers
  • Donor sites
  • Traumatic and surgical wounds

Does the Silvercel Dressing stick to the wound?  And if so, how do you get it off easily without damaging the wound more?
Helen - 3/6/2016 12:36:10 PM
answer image
Debride the wound if necessary and irrigate in accordance with standard wound management protocol.
Fold or cut to the size of the wound and apply directly to the wound.
Loosely pack deep wounds ensuring that the dressing does not overlap the edges of the wound.
Secure in position with a non-occlusive secondary dressing like TIELLE® Hydropolymer dressing.
Changing the dressing
Dressing change frequency will depend on wound condition and the level of exudate.
Initially it may be necessary to change the dressing every 24 hours.
Reapply SILVERCEL® Hydro-Alginate Dressing when the secondary dressing has reached its absorbent capacity, or whenever good wound care practice dictates that the dressing should be changed.
Gently remove the secondary dressing.
If the wound appears dry, saturate the dressing with normal saline solution prior to removal.
