Orfit Classic Splinting Material offers a moldable textile that can be conformed to best suit each individual's positioning and sizing needs. Both therapists and patients in physical rehabilitation can benefit from Orfit Classic Splinting Material's strong performance. Orfit Classic offers a great deal of elasticity and adhesion. Its extensive product line makes it suitable for all forms of orthoses. It works well as a foundation for various attachments and has virtually limitless potential for the manufacture of extremely big to very small orthoses, depending on the thickness you choose. Once set, the material permanently bonds to itself and becomes stiff in order to maintain the proper configuration for its user, making it precisely customizable to each individual's needs. All of our materials are of the highest quality and meet stringent safety and quality control requirements.

Orfit Classic Splinting Material Features

  • Orfit Classic Splinting Material is latex free
  • Resistance to Stretch
    - Minimum resistance to stretch
    - Allows the splintmaker to easily stretch and wrap material
  • Drape
    - Maximum drape
    - Ideal for creating intricate shapes and contours. When warm, transparency allows proper alignment and visual monitoring over anatomical landmarks
  • Memory
    - 100% memory
    - Material will return to its original shape and size when reheated. Ideal for novice splinters
  • Rigidity
    - Moderate rigidity
    - Molded material splints flex slightly with force, especially the perforated, thinner materials
    - Circumferential splints increase rigidity
  • Bonding
    - Uncoated Orfit Classic Soft provides a very sticky surface when warm and bonds without the need for solvents
    - Sticks easily to itself. Use as a bonding agent to attach outriggers or other accessories to splint
    - For a permanent bond, apply dry heat to the surface until shiny and attach accessories directly to the material. Wet bonds can be released in warm water if necessary
    - For easier handling, add liquid soap to water and keep thermoplastic damp while molding
    - Handling instructions are included
  • Surface Finish
    - Resists fingerprints and other pressure marks
    - Leaves smooth, self-sealing edges when cut warm
    - A variety of thicknesses and perforations make Orfit exceptionally versatile.

What to buy with Orfit Splinting Thermoplastics

How Orfit works

  • Transparency indicates when the material is ready to mould. Allows for proper alignment and visual monitoring over anatomical landmarks.
  • Temporary adhesion during orthotic fabrication and reliable permanent bonding by using dry heat. Tackiness helps orthosis stay in place during fabrication. All attachments and outriggers can be adhered easily.
  • Very precise moulding conforms to patient anatomy, for example in the hand arches and first web space. Accurate moulding improves correct dispersion of skin pressure.
  • Completely remouldable and can be adjusted easily after reheating locally.
  • Avoids waste of material.
  • Soft version has less resistance to stretch and more drape, while stiff version has increased resistance to stretch and less drape.

Recommended Application

  • Unlimited potential for the fabrication of all size splints with extra care and prevention of pressure points. Excellent as a base for different attachments.
  • “Soft” version recommended for: small finger orthoses, thumb orthoses, resting hand orthoses, wrist and wrist/thumb orthoses and circumferential designs.
  • “Stiff” version recommended for: large orthoses, long arm orthoses, AFO’s and fracture and anti-spastic bracing.
