Mepilex Ag Indications:

Mepilex Ag foam dressing w/ silver is used for the treatment of low to moderate exuding wounds like partial thickness burns, pressure ulcers, and leg and foot ulcers. It effectively absorbs and manages most exudate levels. It is not for every patient but only for those whose wounds do not heal normally. If the bacterial influence is too high, it is required to be reduced so that it does not interfere with the wound healing. Some common signs of high bacterial influence are shown below:

  • Wound healing does not progress normally
  • Redness
  • Spreading redness
  • Increased skin temperature
  • Signs of Pseudomonas
  • Patient in pain
  • Increasing exudate
  • Odor
  • Odema

How does Mepilex Ag Silver Dressing work?

  • Mepilex Ag is a wound care dressing that constitutes an absorbent polyurethane foam pad embedded with silver sulfate compound.
  • Silver particles in the dressing are inactive in dry conditions.
  • When the dressing comes in contact with the moisture, the silver particles release silver ions which disperse throughout the dressing and into the wound environment.
  • Released silver ions inhibit a wide range of wound-related pathogens like bacteria, fungi, MRSA, VRE, and Pseudomonas.
  • Safetac layer protects the peri-wound skin, minimizes trauma and pain at dressing change and reduces the risk of maceration.

Mepilex Safetac Technology:

Mepilex Safetac Technology

Safetac technology ensures less pain and less trauma at dressing change. It is a soft silicone technology that allows patients to wear and remove dressing without any trauma. Mepilex Ag with Safetac technology minimizes trauma and damage to the wound and the surrounding skin, thereby minimizing the pain to the patient. It also seals the wound margins to protect the peri-wound skin and prevent maceration.

How to use Mepilex Ag Foam Dressing?

How to use Mepilex Ag Foam Dressing

  • For effective results, select a size that will allow Mepilex Ag Antimicrobial Foam Dressing to extend wound margins by at least 2 cm. Cleanse the wound with normal water or saline according to standard clinical protocol. Thoroughly dry the surrounding skin.
  • Remove the release film and apply with the adherent side to the wound. Remember not to stretch. For application on the lower limb, position the dressing slightly off center so that more of it rests below the wound than above.
  • Use Mepitac or other fixation devices to secure the dressing in place.

  • Avoid use on patients undergoing radiation therapy.
  • Avoid use on patients with a known sensitivity to silver.
  • Avoid use on patients undergoing MRI (Magnetic Resonance Imaging).
  • Do not use in combination with oxidizing agents like hydrogen peroxide or hypochlorite solutions.

How is the dressing adherent after removing?
Klaus - 3/2/2017 2:20:17 AM
answer image
When a common dressing with adhesive is removed, a few cell layers are removed from the skin. These skin cells cover the adhesive, which therefore is no longer adherent. Silicone layer of Mepilex Ag adheres gently without removing any skin layers. The silicone layer is therefore intact and still adherent even after removal.

How should I store this dressing?
Julia - 3/2/2017 2:19:15 AM

Mepilex Ag should be stored in dry conditions below 95°F (35°C). If exposed to direct sunlight, Mepilex Ag may discolor, although this will not adversely affect the dressing.
