How to use Comfort Cool Thumb Brace?
- Slide thumb into the thumb sleeve. Wrap the splint around the wrist and secure the hook and loop fastener comfortably on the dorsum (top) of the hand.
- Pull the CMC strap firmly from the base of the thumb, attaching it to the curved hook fastener on the thenar (palm) eminence.
- Gently pull the strap through the thumb web space and secure it to the hook fastener on the dorsum (top) of the splint. Trim the strap if needed.
- To allow greater IP motion, cut curve along volar thumb edge. If the thumb MP joint support is not desired, cut off the thumb sleeve below the thumb web seam. Be sure to trim just above one of the stitched reinforcements. Trim next to the distal edge of the curved hook fastener on the thenar no closer than 1/4" (6.4mm).
How to care for this CMC Brace?
- Hand wash the splint in lukewarm water with a mild soap.
- Allow it to dry with a cloth.

1. How does a thumb spica splint work?
Thumb spica splints are orthopedic splints that are used to limit movement and provide support and comfort to people who have a thumb injury. The other fingers are usually free to move in this type of splint.
2. How tight should my Cool Comfort Thumb Brace be?
The long side of the brace should rest outside your thumb and along your inside wrist and forearm when you put it on. Secure the straps around your thumb and wrist to be comfortable to wear and do not obstruct your circulation. If the splint is bothering you, see your doctor.
3. How tight should splints be?
If your fingers, hand, arm, toes, foot, or leg have numbness/tingling. Remember to get them moving!!! if your cast is too small. Your cast was designed to prevent excessive movement and should therefore be snug but not too tight. (There is a difference!).
4. What is a CMC Thumb Splint used for?
The main purpose of using a CMC Joint Brace is to stabilize the joint, reduce pain symptoms, and treat osteoarthritis problems. It helps enhance the performance of everyday activities.
5. How long should one wear a thumb splint?
It is often recommended to wear a splint for most of the day for 3 to 4 weeks. During this time, you may need to remove the splint several times a day.
6. Is it ideal to wear a thumb splint at night?
Wearing the CMC Splint all night will make your joints stiff. Don't wear your working splint overnight unless you've been told to by your therapist or nurse.
