How Coloplast Biatain Ag Dressing Works?

On contact with wound exudate Biatain Alginate Ag converts to a soft, cohesive gel that conforms closely to the wound bed for optimal infection control. The patented silver complex releases ions in the presence of wound exudate.

When to use Biatain Alginate Ag Dressing?

• Biatain Alginate Ag can be used on all moderate to heavily exuding partial to full thickness wounds, including
  
  • Leg ulcers 
  • Pressure ulcers 
  • Diabetic foot ulcers 
  • Donor sites
  • Traumatic wounds
  • Second degree burns
• It can be used under compression bandages
• Biatain Foam dressing may be used on wounds at risk of infection
• Biatain Alginate Ag should not be used on dry or lightly exuding wounds or to control heavy bleeding

Contraindications:

• Not indicated for patients with a known sensitivity to silver

How to Apply Colopast Biatain Alginate Dressing?

1. Cleanse the wound with saline and gently dry the surrounding skin.
2. If any film, cream, ointment or similar product is used, allow the skin to dry before dressing application.
3. Remove Biatain Ag foam dressings aseptically from the packaging. Do not touch the plain (non printed) side of the foam.
4. Apply Biatain Ag by choosing a size that overlaps the wound by a minimum of 2 cm. Apply the plain (non-printed) side of the product to the wound bed.
5. If the wound is low exuding Biatain Ag foam dressings may be moistened with sterile saline solution before placing on the wound.
6. Biatain Ag non-adhesive dressings must be secured with a secondary dressing or compression bandage.
7. Biatain Ag foam dressings should be changed when clinically indicated or when visible signs of exudate approach the edge of the dressing.
8. For use of silver containing products beyond 30 days a clinical assessment by a healthcare professional is recommended.

Frequency of Change:

• May be left in place up to 7 days depending on the amount of exudate, dressing condition and type of wound
