Contraindications
Compression bandaging system should not be used on patients with an Ankle Brachial Index (ABI) of less than 0.8. An ABI of less than 0.8 may mean that the patient has arterial insufficiency and that the ulcer may not be simply a venostasis ulcer. Compression bandaging of a leg which already has a partially blocked blood supply could completely stop the flow of blood into the leg and lead to the death of the skin and muscle of the leg. Death of the muscle and skin of the leg could lead to further complications and possibly amputation of the leg.
