Argentum Silverlon Antimicrobial Silver Calcium Alginate Dressing works as an effective barrier to microbial penetration. It is made up of a sterile, non-woven pad composed of High M (manuronic acid) alginate and a silver nylon contact layer.

Indications For Use:

  • Moderately to heavily-exudating
  • Skin graft and donor sites
  • Partial and full thickness wounds
  • 1st and 2nd degree burns
  • Traumatic and surgical wounds
  • Vascular ulcers and diabetic ulcers
  • Pressure ulcers and dermal ulcers

How To Use Silverlon Calcium Alginate Dressing?

Application Instructions:

  • Before application, debride when necessary and irrigate the wound site in accordance with standard protocols.
  • Remove excess solution from surrounding skin.
  • Select a size of Silverlon Antimicrobial Silver Calcium Alginate Dressing that is slightly larger than the wound.
  • Cut using clean scissors or fold the dressing to fit the wound, either side down.
  • Loosely pack deep wounds, ensuring the dressing does not overlap the wound margins.
  • For heavily exudating wounds, apply to the wound bed directly.
  • For wounds with minimal exudate, apply to a sterile water or saline-moistened wound bed.

Removal Instructions:

  • To remove Silverlon Antimicrobial Silver Calcium Alginate Dressing, first gently remove the secondary dressing.
  • If the wound appears dry, saturate the dressing with sterile water or normal saline solution prior to removal.
  • Gently remove the dressing from the wound bed and discard.
  • Irrigate the wound site with a suitable wound cleanser prior to application of a new dressing.

Dressing Change Frequency:

  • Dressing change frequency depends on the patient condition and the level of exudate
  • Initially it may be required to change the Silver Calcium Alginate Wound Dressing every 24 hours
  • It should be reapplied when the secondary dressing has reached its absorbent capacity or whenever good wound care practice dictates that the dressing should be changed

Contraindications:

  • Avoid using on patients with known sensitivity to silver, nylon or alginates
  • Calcium Alginate Dressing With Silver is not intended for use on 3rd degree burns
  • Not intended for use to control heavy bleeding
  • Do not moisten Silverlon Calcium Alginate Dressing with hydrogen peroxide or povidone iodine

Warnings:

  • Do not use past expiration date on the product packaging
  • Do not use if pouch is damaged or open
  • Clinicians or healthcare professionals should be aware that there are very limited data on prolonged and repeated use of silver-containing dressings, particularly in children and neonates
  • Do not use petroleum-based ointments or creams under Silverlon Antimicrobial Silver Calcium Alginate Dressing
  • Silverlon CA dressing may adhere to tissue if used on lightly exudating wounds
