How to use Urinary Drainage Bags?

• Always make sure that the catheter and drainage bag tubing are connected firmly
• Periodic inspection of the system should be made to ensure urine is flowing freely
• Drainage bag should be placed near the foot of the bed and below the level of the patient's hip.
• Excess tubing should be arranged in such a manner that it permits straight line (easy) flow of urine and does not allow the tubing to kink or fall below the level of drainage bag
• When transporting, do not place the bag on patient's abdomen or between his/her legs.
