How to apply Rolyan Tone And Positioning Splint?

Apply Rolyan Glove:

  1. Open straps
  2. With hook pad on volar surface, put glove onto hand and close straps
  3. If necessary, the glove can be trimmed. Check the following areas for proper fit:
    • It should clear the distal palmar crease
    • It should clear the MCPs on the dorsum of the hand
    • It should cover the ulnar border of the hand

Note: Do not trim the thumb through the stitching

Apply TAP Splint so forearm is in supination:

  1. Using the end that does not have the hook tab, attach the strap to the hook pad on the volar surface of the glove. Wrap the strap through the thumb web space, over the dorsum of the hand, around the ulnar aspect of the wrist, and over the volar surface of the middle of the forearm.
  2. Wrap the strap around the arm either distal or proximal to the elbow (not directly over it) until the hook tab can be fastened to the strap to form a cuff.
  3. Adjust the distal end of the strap for final fit by lifting the strap off the hook and gently stretching the strap for the appropriate force of pull and desired amount of supination. Reattach the strap to secure it.
  4. If necessary, trim the length of the strap

Apply Rolyan Splint so forearm is in pronation:

  1. Using the end that does not have the hook tab, attach the strap to the hook pad on the volar surface of the glove. Wrap the strap toward the ulnar side of the wrist and around the mid-point of the dorsum of the forearm. Bring it to the volar surface of the forearm
  2. Wrap the strap around the arm either distal or proximal to the elbow until the hook tab can be fastened to the strap to form a cuff.
  3. Adjust the distal end of the strap for final fit by lifting the strap off the hook and gently stretching the strap for the appropriate force of pull and desired amount of pronation. Reattach the strap to secure it.
  4. If necessary, trim the length of the strap

Trimming strap:

  1. If the splint will be used for only supination or only pronation, trim the length of the strap after the final fit. If using the splint alternately for pronation and supination, trim the strap during the final fit in supination only to avoid over-trimming it.
