How to use Rolyan Universal Hand Orthosis?

• Perform passive range of motion to determine the best position for the patient’s hand.
• If thumb stabilization is necessary, adjust the thumb portion to support the thumb in a therapeutic alignment.
• Adjust the splint to fit the patient.
• It may be necessary to use the edge of a stable, hard surface to bend and contour the splint.
• To prevent ulnar deviation or radial drift, bend the wings on either side of the fingers. Bend and fit the wrist to a proper position.
• When proper shape is achieved, open the hook and loop closures.
• Apply the orthosis to the extremity; then adjust and set the strap in position, using the shape matching system.
• Maintain a two-finger gap under the straps.
• This will prevent pressure on the skin.
• Check every two hours for redness and swelling or follow facility’s splint wearing protocol.
• Examine the orthosis for usefulness and compatibility on a regular basis, as directed by your physician.
• It is possible that the splint will need to be adjusted on a regular basis.

Cleaning Instructions for Rolyan Kwik-Form Hand Orthosis

• Remove cover from frame.
• Engage all hook and loop closures.
• Cover can be hand washed or machine washed on gentle cycle (in laundry bag provided) with mild soap and water.
• Air dry.
• Wipe down frame with mild soap and water.
• Reassemble after splint is completely dry.

Contraindications:

• Not to be used over open wounds.
• Not to be used for severe hypertonicity.

Precautions:

• Orthosis needs to be fitted initially by healthcare professional familiar with the purpose for which it is prescribed.
• Healthcare professional is responsible for providing wearing instructions and precautions to other healthcare practitioners or care providers involved in patient’s care.
• If unusual swelling, skin discoloration or discomfort occurs, use should be discontinued and a healthcare professional consulted.
• Be careful that the straps are not so tight that they interfere with circulation. Single patient use only.
• This splint is not heat moldable.
