Rolyan AquaForm Universal Zippered Wrist And Thumb Spica Splint is made from electric blue Aquaplast-T. It can be used either as a thumb spica or wrist cock-up splint, depending on how the splint is trimmed. Solid edges ensure speedy finishing and a solid portion on the thumb provides extra stability. Wrist And Thumb Spica Splint can also be used as a fracture brace, post-cast brace, outrigger base, or arthritis splint.

Contraindications:

  • Not in the presence of severe edema and reflex sympathetic dystrophy
  • May not be recommended for the acute phase of wrist fractures
     

Precautions:

  • These splints are to be fitted initially by a healthcare professional who is familiar with the purpose for which they are prescribed. The healthcare professional is responsible for providing wearing instructions and precautions to other healthcare practitioners, care providers involved in the patient care, and the patient.
  • If unusual swelling, skin discoloration, or discomfort occurs, use should be discontinued and a healthcare professional consulted.
  • Be sure the splint does not impinge the long extensor tendons of the thumb, the superficial radial nerve, and the dorsal branch of the ulnar nerve.
  • After heating the splinting material, always check its temperature before applying it to the patient.
     

Care and Cleaning:

  • The splint will lose its shape in temperatures over 135°F (57°C). It should be kept away from sources of heat such as ovens, hot water, open flames, and sunny car windows.
  • The splint may be cleaned with soap and lukewarm water. It should be allowed to air dry thoroughly before reapplication
