How to use Rolyan Ulnar Deviation Wrist Splint?

Make sure that the hook material on the splint faces away from the skin.

Molding the optional wrist stay

1. Firstly, heat the stay made from Polyform splinting material in water heated to 150 degrees to 160 degrees F (65 degrees - 70 degrees C) for one minute or until pliable.
2. Remove from the heat pan and place on a towel on a flat surface.
3. Thereafter mold the stay on the volar wrist surface with the cutout area around the thenar eminence. The material is then rolled back to clear the thenar eminence and the distal palmar crease.
4. Put the cooled out stay into the pocket.
5. Apply the splint and fasten the D-ring wrist straps.
6. Then wrap the first finger separator between the index and middle fingers, and around the index finger. With a gentle ulnar-to-radial pull, attach it to the hook material on the splint.
7. Continue to wrap the finger separators around the fingers, attaching them to the hook on the previous finger separator, until all of them are fastened.

Precautions to take While Using Ulnar Deviation Wrist Splint

• This splint is to be fitted initially by a healthcare professional who is familiar with the purpose for which it is prescribed. The healthcare professional is responsible for providing wearing instructions and precautions to other healthcare practitioners, care providers involved in the patient care and the patient.
• If unusual swelling, skin discoloration or discomfort occurs, use should be discontinued and a healthcare professional consulted.
• Be careful that the splint is not so tight that it interferes with circulation.
• After heating splinting material, always check its temperature before applying it to the patient.

How to Clean Rolyan Ulnar Deviation Wrist Splint?

• The stay will lose its shape in temperatures over 135 degrees F (57 degrees C). It should be kept away from sources of heat such as ovens, hot water, open flames, and sunny car windows.
• Remove stay before washing splint.
• Fasten hook-and-loop fasteners. Handwash the fabric in warm water and mild soap. Rinse thoroughly. Do not wring.
• Dry at room temperature. Be sure the splint is completely dry before reapplying it.
