• Usage:
  - Gait belts are used for lifting, transferring or ambulating patients
• Instructions:
  - Gait Belts are not to be used as a chair, wheelchair or bed restraining device. - Thread the metal tipped end of the belt through the buckle hinge, over teeth and through the slot opening at the back of the buckle.
  - Adjust the belt snugly around the patients waist.
  - Leave enough room so that you can get both hands around the webbing.
  - Slide your hands upwards underneath the belt. Grasp belt at patients side and back. Your dominant hand should be at the patients back.
• Caution:
  - Insure you have the physical capability to support that patient before lifting, transferring or ambulating them.
  - If necessary, two caregivers may be required for patient safety. This is especially important if the patient is large or very heavy.
