Frequently Bought Together

How to Handle Feeding Bags?

  • In the intermittent feeding method, the formula is run through the pump for a specified time.
  • The process after a break of 1 to 3 hours is repeated. During that gap, you can either clean the bag with sterile water and leave the bag on the pump until the next feeding or you can put the feeding bag in a Ziplock pouch and store it in the fridge until the next use.
  • Refrigerating the feeding bag is the safest method than rinsing it with sterile water, as cooling the bag requires less manipulation than cleaning.
  • Normally, a new bag is used every 24 hours. But more recent studies show that it is appropriate to change the feeding bag every 72 hours rather than 24 hours.
  • It will decrease the supply cost and nursing time for the patients who need to be on an enteral feeding system for a longer period. After filling the bag with formula, you should prime the bag to remove the air from the tube. The prime button is on the pump.

What is Anti Free-Flow (AFF)?

  • Anti Free-Flow is an integral component of every Kangaroo Joey Feeding Bags
  • This feature prevents the bag from allowing the free flow of solution into the patient (similar to a gravity feed set) if the set becomes disconnected from the pump
  • This is safer for the patient because it prevents a possible overfeed situation that could lead to patient aspiration or other complications
  • In addition, it provides for easier set-up by the clinical staff and minimizes the potential for solution spill due to an open roller-clamp
