Humane Restraint Ambulatory Locking Wrist-Waist Restraint Belt is used to secure a persons wrists at the waist. This restraint allows no freedom of movement of the arms. It is easier glide belt that features locks for security and softer, adjustable wrist cuffs. The wrist cuffs attached directly to the belt to control movement.

  • Material used:
    - Leather belt:
    Steel loop, 12oz to 13oz leather, light orthopedic leather lining and rivets.
    - Polyurethane belt: Steel loop and polyurethane.
  • Cleaning and maintaining:
    - Leather belt:
    For regular cleaning, wipe with a mild soap and warm water. When decontaminating bloodborne pathogens, use one cup of bleach to a gallon of water, then rinse. After wiping the leather, allow it to air dry and apply neats-foot oil.
    - Polyurethane belt: For regular cleaning, wipe with a mild soap and warm water. When decontaminating bloodborne pathogens, use one cup of bleach to a gallon of water, then rinse and dry.
  • Storage:
    - Leather belt: Store in a dry area to prevent mildew.
    - Polyurethane belt:Store away from heat greater than 280°F or open flame.
  • Instructions:
    - Unlock all locks
    - Wrap belt around waist so that the lock is in back and on the right side of the body
    - Loop the end of the belt through the lock and follow L-300 locking procedures
    - Then take one wrist and put it into the open wrist cuff, wrap the cuff around the wrist, and fit to the appropriate size adjustment
    - Follow L-300 locking procedures on back of this page to secure the lock
    - Use this same procedure to secure the other wrist
  • L-300 Lock Instructions:
    - To open lock: Insert key, turn until lock pops up. Slide out strap. If pressure is on the locking pin, pull strap to release tension.
    - To close lock: Slide strap through and to adjustment; push down until it clicks.
  • Note: Do not use for prolonged periods of time. Improper adjustment may prohibit proper circulation.

    Help the patient into a sitting position. Apply the belt over the patient's clothes, hospital gown, or pajamas. Smooth out wrinkles or creases in the patient's clothing. Be sure to place the restraint at the waist, not the chest or the abdomen.
     
  4. How long can restraints be left on?
    The maximum length of time that you can be restrained or secluded is based on your age. If you are an adult, the time cannot exceed four (4) hours. If you are between the ages of 9 and 17 years, the time cannot exceed two (2) hours. If you are younger than 9 years, the time cannot exceed one (1) hour.
