• Karaya 5 Skin Barrier
  Karaya 5 is a natural skin barrier that is particularly well suited for sensitive skin. It has a mildly acidic pH (4.5 - 5.0) that helps maintain the natural protection of skin against bacterial growth and irritation. Karaya 5 is based on Karaya gum, a natural product derived from the stericulia urens tree that grows primarily in central and northern India. Karaya is a safe, natural product that is used as an additive in a number of foods. Some of the special properties of Karaya help protect skin. Protects skin against caustic action of digestive enzymes. Inhibits bacterial growth and attendant infections and abrasions. Maintains pH of 4.5 in the presence of acid or base substances. Neutralises digestive enzymes (pancreatic & bile) found in stoma output. Karaya protects skin from breakdown resulting from bacterial infection. Inhibits/stops bacteria growth because of natural pH of 4.5 and low moisture content. Neutralises bacteria, eg. E. Coli, bacillus subtilis, pyocyanic bacillus, which cause skin problems. Karaya is bacteriostatic. Safe and hygienic, used in food and medical products. Easy to use and remove, cleans with soap and water and leaves no residue. Adheres to dry skin, adhesive applied to seal ring. Karaya seal rings provide shallow convexity; adding seal rings creates greater depth of convexity. Moldable to fit irregularly shaped stomas.
