What to buy with Conveen Security Plus Leg Bag

Things to Note while using Leg Bags:

  • Change the drainage bag if it is damaged or visibly dirty. Always follow the recommendations from your healthcare professional otherwise.
  • Make sure to wash your hands before and after you empty your leg bag. You should empty your leg bag directly into the toilet or receptacle when it is approximately half full, or sooner if it feels uncomfortable on your leg.
  • In order to avoid the risk of infection or bacteria entering the leg bag, do not let the tap touch the seat or bowl of the toilet.
  • Contact your healthcare professional if the urine is not draining into the bag.
  • You should store unopened drainage bags in a cool, clean, dark place.
  • A used drainage bag is a potential bio-hazard. You can wrap your used bags in a newspaper before putting them in the bin, or you can put them in a plastic disposal bag. Do not flush bags down the toilet.

I was told by a representative today that no size tubing on sterile leg bags is removable, to allow the bag to be attached directly to the Foley catheter. She said, in fact, that if the tubing could be removed from the bag, that meant I had been given a non-sterile bag and this was unacceptable for a Foley. Later in the day, I found a Bard sterile bag and tubing still in pkg, with the enclosed tubing definitely not attached--ready to be attached, though. Since my mother is short, I had hoped that it would be safe to attach her Foley directly to that bag, which I did tonight since she began treatment for infection today.

I have a 2nd and 3rd questions:  if the recommendation, which I am seeing on some sites, is for me to put on a brand new bag every week, can I ignore the weekly change, which her urologist never mentioned? Otherwise, I am going to have to fork out additional expenses to cover what I assume Medicare will not. Or will Medicare make exceptions if a prescription orders 4 bags/month for extremely frail, elderly patients who must use a Foley due to retention, but are quite prone to infections, anyway?

As for the first question in your query, we believe that you went for a different product (also from another manufacturer) to suffice your needs. For that, we cannot provide you with much help since we are just retailers and not manufacturers. Also, we provide a wide range of drainage bags, so, if you found out the right one you were looking for, we are glad we could be of help.

For the second question, whether you should change bags that frquently, we believe a good quality reusable drainage bag will merely require for you to thoroughly clean it (wih mild soap and water) twice a week. That being said, you will still be required to purchase replacements atleast once a month. If you resort for cheaper options, you will have to replace them more frequently depending on the average life of the bag.

For the rest of your query, we would like to inform you that we do not deal with medicare directly. For that, you will have to enquire with them yourself and check if they provide assistance in your case. We on our end can provide you with the paid invoice that you can forward to Medicare for reimbursement.

Received bag 21054 (1000ml) and how do I reduce length of tube as it is to long from attached catheter to bag to fit on my leg.  Previous bags I cut length and re-inserted connector for catheter.  Supplied by Liberty Medical Supply to replace previous discontinued leg bags.
