What to buy with Grab Bars for Shower

How to install Cardinal Health Bathroom Grab Bars?

  1. Remove grab bar from package, setting aside screws, wall anchors, and gaskets
  2. Using a stud finder, locate wall studs. For best performance, the screw holes of the grab bar MUST be aligned so that at least two of the three mounting screws on each end of the grab bar passes through the wallboard or tile and secures into the wall studs. If both ends cannot be secured into wall studs, ensure that at least two of the three mounting screws on one end of the grab bar secures into wall studs. Use wall anchors to secure the other end to the wall.
  3. Place grab bar at desired position and hold it stationary. Use a pencil to mark the screw hole positions on each end of the grab bar. Set grab bar aside.
  4. Use power drill and 9/64-inch drill bit to drill all holes at marked positions.
  5. Place the grab bar against wall, sliding a gasket between each end of the grab bar and wall. Align mounting holes and gasket holes with holes in the wall and/or holes containing wall anchors.
  6. Insert screws into one side of the grab bar. Hand tighten only.
  7. Insert screws into opposite end of grab bar, then securely tighten mounting screws on both ends

How to care for Cardinal Health Grab Bars?

To ensure that your grab bar will have a long service life, inspect it regularly and follow these general maintenance tips:
  • Clean with mild soap and water at least once a week. Do not use an abrasive cleaner that will scratch the finish.
  • Before each use, ensure that grab bar is securely installed. Never use grab bar if any looseness is noted.
  • Do not use non-Cardinal Health parts

Warnings:
  • To provide optimum safety and function, it is highly recommended that location, size, and angle of bar be determined by a qualified professional
  • Proper installation is extremely important. Special fasteners may be required if wood is not in desired location. If in doubt about any step of the installation process, installation should be conducted by a qualified professional.
  • For best performance, select a grab bar length that allows for both ends to be securely anchored into wall studs. When both ends cannot be secured into wall studs, ensure that at least two of the three mounting screws on one end of the grab bar secures into wall studs. Use wall anchors to secure the other end to the wall.
  • Standard measurement of wall studs is 16 inches between centers (Figure 2). Because older homes may not always comply with current codes, it is recommended that wall studs are located using a stud finder, which may be obtained from any hardware store.
  • When drilling into the wall, use extreme caution and avoid all electrical wiring and plumbing located behind the wall. Damaged electrical wiring can cause electrical shock and fire. Because older homes may not always comply with current codes, it is recommended that internal wall wiring and plumbing be established before installation so that there is no interference with installation.
  • If installing grab bar over tile, select the best-suited drill bit designed to drill into your type of tile and sized to fit the wall anchors.
