MAXTENS 2000 is used for the symptomatic relief and management of chronic intractable pain and adjunctive treatment of post-surgical or post-traumatic acute pain. This is a prescription device and should be used under continued medical supervision.

How to use MAXTENS TENS Unit?

  1. Check contraindications with patient.
  2. Test skin for normal sensation using a blunt/sharp test.
  3. TENS device should be switched off and electrode leads disconnected.
  4. Set electrical characteristics of TENS while device is switched off. They should be prescribed.
  5. Connect electrodes to pins on lead wire and position electrodes on the patient's skin.
  6. Ensure TENS device is still switched off and connect the electrode wire to the TENS device.
  7. Switch the TENS device ON.
  8. Gradually (slowly) increase the intensity until the patient experiences the first 'tingling' sensation from the stimulator.
  9. Gradually (slowly) increase the intensity until the patient experiences a 'strong but comfortable' tingling sensation.
  10. This intensity should not be painful or cause muscle contraction (unless intense TENS or AL—TENS are being used).

Maintenance, Transport, and Storage of MAXTENS 2000

  1. Non-flammable cleaning solution is suitable for cleaning the device. Note: Do not smoke or work with open lights (for example. candles. etc.) when working with flammable liquids.
  2. Stains and spots can be removed with a cleaning agent.
  3. Do not submerge the device in liquids or expose it to large amounts of water.
  4. Return the device to the carrying box with sponge foam to ensure that the unit is well-protected before transportation.
  5. If the device is not to be used for a long period of time. remove the batteries from the battery compartment (acid may leak from used batteries and damage the device). Put the device and accessories in carrying box and keep it in cool dry place.
  6. The packed TENS device should be stored and transported under the temperature range of - 20t — +60-C, relative humidity 20% — 95%, atmosphere pressure 500 hPa 1060hPa.

Precautions:

  • TENS is not effective for pain of central origin (This includes headache)
  • TENS devices have no curative value
  • Keep the device out of reach of children
  • Long-term stimulation at the same electrode site may cause skin irritation
  • Effectiveness is highly dependent upon patient selection by a person qualified in the management of pain patients
  • Simultaneous connection of a patient to a HF SURGICAL EQUIPMENT may result in burns at the site of the stimulator electrodes and possible damage to the stimulator
  • Operation in close proximity (e.g. 1m) to a shortwave or microwave therapy equipment may produce instability in the stimulator output
  • Remove batteries if unit is not used for a long period of time
  • Never apply electrodes over irritated or broken skin


Contraindications:

  • If you have a demand—type cardiac pacemaker. do not use a Bio TENS unit
  • Do not use TENS on the carotid sinus (neck) region
  • Do not use TENS for patients with known myocardial disease or arrhythmias without consultation and evaluation by a physician
  • Do not apply TENS for undiagnosed pain syndromes until etiology is established
  • Do not place electrodes on the site that may cause current to flow transcerebrally (through the head)
