Amplified phones are specifically designed to aid people with hearing loss. These phones allow them to turn up the volume when required to hear speech clearly. Amplified phones have features that make it easier to hear high-pitched noises, that people with hearing impairment may find challenging.
A captioned telephone is a specially designed telephone with a built-in screen that displays text (captions) of everything the other person on the call says.
People with hearing loss who find it difficult to understand conversations on a normal phone are the ones who require amplified telephones.
Mild hearing loss is when a person is able to hear speech between 26 and 40 decibels.
People with severe hearing loss can only hear sounds between 70 and 90 decibels. Such people benefit from a phone with high amplification.
