What is a breast form? |
A breast form is an external prosthesis which can be worn inside the bra pocket of a post mastectomy bra. It has the look and feel of a natural breast and is generally made of silicone, gel, foam or fiberfill. Breast forms come in a variety of shape, size and color. The amount of breast tissue removed during mastectomy determines the prosthesis best suited for the person. |
What is post mastectomy bra? |
Post mastectomy bras are similar to regular bras but with an important difference – there are spandex pockets inside the post mastectomy bra that holds a breast prosthesis securely in place. |
How soon after surgery can I be fitted for a breast form? |
After mastectomy, it takes around four to six weeks for essential healing to take place after which the first fitting for a silicone breast form may be held. |
