Burns cause damage to your body's tissues by heat, chemicals, electricity, sunlight, or radiation. Also Scalds from hot liquids and steam, building fires and flammable liquids and gases are common causes of burns.

Types of burns are:

  • First-degree burns that damage only the outer layer of skin
  • Second-degree burns that cause damage to the outer layer and the layer underneath Third-degree burns are the most severe and damage or destroy the deepest layer of skin and tissues underneath. 

In case of first degree burns
  • Soak the wound in cold water. 
  • Take an OTC pain relief medicine
  • Applying aloe vera gel or honey burn care hydrogel dressing 
  • Using a burn contact dressing to protect the wound.

To treat second degree burns

  • Keep your wound under cool running water for 15 minutes or longer 
  • taking over-the-counter pain medication (acetaminophen or ibuprofen)
  • applying antibiotic cream to blisters
  • Cover the wound with an appropriate burn dressing
  • Contact your doctor if the burn effects areas like face, hands, buttocks, groin, or feet
