When to use?

The solution is typically used in the following situations:

• Wound closure: After cleaning and disinfecting a wound, the Steri-Strip Compound Benzoin Tincture can be applied to the skin around the wound to enhance the adherence of the wound closure strips. This can help to keep the wound edges together and promote faster healing.
• Placement of medical devices: The solution can be used to help secure medical devices such as IV lines, catheters, or other medical devices that need to be placed on the skin.

How to use Tincture of Benzoin?

1. Clean, dry skin for at least 2 ½ inches (6,4cm) around the wound, making sure to remove skin oil or exudate. For best results, use a sponge moistened with alcohol or saline, followed by a firm wipe with a dry sponge.
2. Using the aseptic technique, peel back the lid and deliver the vial.
3. Gently squeeze vial to crush inner ampoule, thereby releasing compound benzoin tincture. Do not roll the crushed ampoules between your fingers as this may cause the glass to penetrate the outer vial.
4. Carefully apply a thin film of compound benzoin tincture to the skin on each side of the wound with strokes parallel to the wound. Begin at the wound edges and work outward. Avoid contact with the wound.
5. Allow the tincture to dry before applying surgical tapes and/or adhesive wound closure bandages (approximately 30-45 seconds).
