How to prepare PKU Gel phenylalanine-free Protein Powder?
PKU gel can be taken either as a gel or a low volume drink.
For gel:
- Step 1: Empty the contents of the packet, plus ½ -1 Flavour Pack packet if desired, into the beaker
- Step 2: Add 30ml (1. oz.) of cold water. Secure the lid and shake well for 10 seconds
- Step 3: Leave to stand for 2 minutes, allowing a smooth gel to form. Consume from spoon
For low volume drinks:
- Step 1: Empty the contents of the packet, plus ½ -1 Flavour Pack packet if desired, into the beaker
- Step 2: Add approximately 80ml (approx. 3. oz.) of cold water. Secure the lid and shake well for 10 seconds
- Step 3: Drink immediately

- Store unopened sachets at room temperature
- Avoid storing product in areas of extreme temperatures
- After opening, store tightly sealed sachet in a cool, dry place and use within one month

What is PKU Gel Protein Powder?
PKU gel is a concentrated, powdered protein substitute that is easily made into a low volume, smooth, semi-solid when mixed with water. One sachet contains the equivalent of 10 grams of protein and all of the vitamins, minerals, and trace elements needed to help meet your child’s requirements. PKU gel can also be made into a low-volume drink if your child prefers to continue with a liquid protein substitute.

The amount of PKU gel your baby or child needs will depend on various factors, including their age, weight, and PKU control. Initially, they may only need a very small amount which will likely increase. Your dietitian will advise exactly how much PKU gel your child will need each day.
What flavour Vitaflo PKU Gel Protein Substitute Powder is?
PKU gel is available unflavoured and is suitable from 6 months of age. It is also available in orange and raspberry flavors, ideal from 1 year. PKU gel can also be flavored using Vitaflo’s Flavour Pack sachets, which are blackcurrant, orange, raspberry, and tropical. Some people also use permitted flavorings.
