Frequently Asked Questions
1. What is heartburn?
Heartburn is a painful burning sensation in the lower chest caused by acid reflux. Acid from the stomach moves back (or “refluxes”) into the esophagus, often causing heartburn pain.
2. What's a PPI?
Proton Pump Inhibitors (PPIs), such as Zegerid OTC, are medicines specifically indicated for treating frequent heartburn. They are highly effective because they block acid production at the source by deactivating acid pumps in your stomach. And PPIs only need to be taken once a day for 14 days.
3. What factors can increase my risk of experiencing heartburn?
There are multiple factors, including but not limited to smoking, being overweight, taking certain medications, eating before bedtime, and wearing tight-fitting clothing.
