Keeping Seniors Safe During the Summer Heat

Keeping Seniors Safe During the Summer Heat

Check in on older neighbors who are alone. Make sure their living space is cool and comfortable.

Dehydration happens quicker as we age. Make sure your senior friends and family members stay hydrated and have enough clean water to drink.

Make sure any temperature sensitive medications they are taking are stored properly.

Check that they are wearing clothes made from fabrics like cotton, linen, chambray, seersucker and jersey to keep them cool on a hot summer day. Nylon, acrylic, polyester, fleece and vinyl are not summer-friendly fabrics.

Encourage your favorite senior to exercise in the mornings or evenings to avoid the hottest part of the day.

Keep elderly loved ones out of the damaging rays of the sun. When venturing outdoors, don’t forget sunscreen and a hat.
