  • After Surgery: When a person has recently undergone surgery and thus experiences urinary retention, a catheter and a urinary bag are required.

Frequently Bought Together

How to use Cardinal Health Leg Bag with T-Tap Valve?

  • Wash your hands thoroughly with soap and water before handling the leg bag.
  • Attach the catheter to the T-Tap valve of the leg bag. Make sure it is securely attached and not leaking.
  • Ensure that the leg bag is positioned below the level of the bladder to allow for gravity drainage. The leg bag should be attached to the leg using the adjustable straps provided. Ensure it is comfortable for the patient and not too tight or loose.
  • Open the T-Tap valve to allow the urine to drain into the bag. The T-Tap valve can be easily opened with one hand. If the urine flow stops, adjust the position of the leg bag or catheter to ensure the flow is not obstructed.
  • Monitor the urine output and the leg bag for any signs of leakage or blockage. If you notice any issues, contact your healthcare provider immediately.
  • When the leg bag is full or needs to be emptied, close the T-Tap valve and disconnect the catheter from the leg bag. Pour the urine into a toilet or a container, and dispose of the urine and the leg bag according to your healthcare provider's instructions.
  • After handling the leg bag and catheter, wash your hands thoroughly with soap and water.

Where to place the leg bag?

  • The elastic leg straps help in attaching the leg bag to the thigh.
  • Ensure the bag is always placed lower than the bladder, so urine does not flow back into it.

How to empty the bag?

Always empty the leg bag in a clean bathroom. Make sure at no point do the catheter tubings or pouch touch any bathroom surfaces. Empty the bag into the toilet at least twice or thrice a day or when the bag is third to half full.

Easy steps to empty the drain bag:

  • Begin with washing hands properly.
  • Keep the bag below the hip or bladder so it's easier to empty.
  • Hold the bag over the toilet and open the T-Tap drainage valve.
  • Do not let the bag touch the toilet surfaces, as it might infect the leg bag.
  • Rinse the bag properly and close the valve.
  • Refrain from placing the bag on the floor. It is advised to reattach it to the thigh of the patient.
  • Rewash hands to avoid infection.
