Poiesis Duette Dual-Balloon Two-Way Foley Catheter Kit is a unique urinary drainage system that uses an elegant, dual-balloon design with 10cc Retention Balloon and 5cc Bladder Protection Balloon. It overcomes the shortcomings of traditional Foley catheters, which cause bladder trauma with their uncushioned tip and through drainage aspiration. Poiesis Duette is 100% Silicone Urinary Catheter, which is inserted into the bladder, connected with a length of tubing to a drainage bag and suspended from the bed rail.

Unique Duette Design:

Duette features three unique design elements that improve upon the Foley design:

    Unique Duette Design

  • A second distal balloon, which is placed on the catheter tip, adds another layer in comprehensive infection control. It is designed to reduce incidents of CAUTI (catheter-associated urinary tract infection) by cushioning the tip to prevent trauma to the defensive bladder wall lining.
  • Drainage eyes have been positioned between the two balloons, designed to prevent aspiration damage to the defensive lining of bladder.
  • Subsumed Tip is designed to be inserted and removed just like a standard Foley catheter. As a result, it requires little new training of medical personnel.

Duette Closed System Architecture:

    Duette Closed System Architecture

  1. Protection balloon inflated with sterile water after insertion to protect the bladder wall from the catheter tip (This balloon is filled second)
  2. Anchor balloon inflated with sterile water after insertion to maintain proper position of catheter (This balloon is filled first)
  3. Catheter drainage tube requiring "down-hill" flow of urine
  4. Inflation ports
  5. Draw-off outlet tube
  6. Urine collection bag

Indications For Use:

  • Cystitis (inflammation of the bladder lining)
  • Chronic irritation of the bladder, which has been shown to increase the risk of bladder cancer between 8-10 percent
  • CAUTI and UTIs
  • Blockage of urine
  • Penetration and perforation of the bladder wall
  • Hematuria (blood in the urine)
  • Patient pain levels during catheterization

More On Poiesis Duette Foley Catheter Kit

Preparation:

  • Visually inspect the Duette Two-Way Foley Catheter Kit for any imperfections or surface deterioration prior to use. If package is opened or if any imperfection or surface deterioration is observed, do not use.
  • Gather required materials: Two 10 ml/cc syringes filled with sterile water.
  • Wash hands before and after the procedure.

Directions For Insertion:

  • Insert catheter according to institution guidelines.
  • Insert one of the 10ml/cc syringes into the Size Color Coded Non-BLACK inflation/deflation port. Slowly depress syringe plunger to fill the proximal retention balloon with approximately 10ml/cc of sterile water, then remove the syringe.

  • Poiesis Duette Dual-Balloon Two-Way Foley Catheter Kit

  • Insert the second 10ml/cc syringe into the BLACK inflation/deflation port. Slowly depress syringe plunger to fill the distal balloon with approximately 5ml/cc of Sterile water, then remove the syringe.

  • Poiesis Duette Dual-Balloon Two-Way Foley Catheter Kit

Directions For Removal:

  • Deflate balloon by gently inserting a syringe into the Size Color Coded Non-BLACK inflation/deflation port, allowing water to flow into the syringe barrel. Never use more force than required to make the syringe stick in the valve. If slow or no deflation occurs, gentle aspiration may be necessary.
  • Empty syringe and insert into BLACK inflation/ deflation port. Repeat deflation process.
  • Remove catheter according to Institution guidelines.

Cautions:

  • Vigorous aspiration may collapse the inflation lumen and prevent balloon deflation. If no deflation occurs, the valve arm may be severed if permitted by institution protocol. If this fails, qualified personnel should be contacted for assistance.
  • Do not aspirate urine through the drainage funnel wall. Inflate balloons using luer slip-adapter syringe.
  • Do not use needles. Maximum catheter inflation capacity with sterile water: 10 ml/cc per balloon.

Warnings:

  • After use, this product may be a potential bio-hazard.
  • Handle and dispose of in accordance with acceptable medical practice and applicable local, state, and federal laws and regulations.
