What to buy with 3M Coban Compression Wrap

How to use 3M Coban Self-Adherent Wraps?

  1. Unwind 12 or more inches of 3M Coban Self-Adherent Wrap from the roll and allow the wrap to relax. It is important to unwind a sufficient length before beginning to wrap.
  2. Without stretching, apply one full wrap and overlap. Press overlapped area lightly to keep the end in place.
  3. Continue wrapping, applying tension to the wrap only to obtain desired compression.
  4. Cut off excess wrap and press the ends to secure the 3M Coban Wrap in place.

Precautions to take while using Self-Adherent Wrap

  • When used as a component in a compression wrap system, it is important to ensure adequate arterial blood flow to avoid injury secondary to decreased circulation. 3M Self Adherent Wrap should be used as a component of a compression wrap system only under the supervision of a wound care specialist.
  • Do Not Reuse. Reuse may result in compromising product integrity and/or lead to device failure.
  • Coban adhesive wrap contains natural rubber latex which may cause allergic reactions.

Warnings

  • 3M Coban Tape will not slip or loosen after application. Do not wrap too tightly to avoid impairing circulation and causing serious injury. The risk of impaired circulation is higher for children.
  • Monitor area frequently (no less than every 24 hours) for signs of swelling, discoloration, pain, numbness, tingling, or other changes in sensation. If these symptoms occur, remove wrap immediately and contact your healthcare provider.
  • Do not place 3M Coban Self-Adherent Wrap in direct contact with an open wound because it may lead to infection.

3M Coban Self-Adherent Wrap FAQ

Q1. Does 3M offer a latex free self-adherent wrap?

A. Yes, 3M Coban LF Self-Adherent Wrap is latex free and is available in sterile and non-sterile versions.

Q2. Can Coban wrap be sterilized?

A. Yes, Coban wrap can be sterilized using ethylene oxide sterilization. Testing in our laboratory has confirmed that ethylene oxide penetrates through the roll of Coban wrap without altering the cohesive qualities of the product. Leave the Coban wrap wrapped in the “cellophane” package, place in a 3M STERI-LOK Polyethylene bag or other appropriate sterilization packaging, and process according to the guidelines of the sterilizer manufacturer. A cold or warm cycle may be used. Cold cycle with typical 37 degree centigrade temperature aerates for a minimum of 12 hours. 3M testing, using these conditions, has resulted in ethylene oxide residuals of less than 250 ppm. Warm cycle with typical 55 degree centigrade temperature aerates for a minimum of 8 hours. 3M testing, using these conditions, has resulted in ethylene oxide residuals of less than 250 ppm. We do not recommend any other sterilization processing methods for Coban wrap. 3M does not guarantee sterility. It is the responsibility of the processor to validate sterility.

Q3. How can you apply Coban wrap without risk of over-compression?

A. Do not apply Coban wrap directly from roll, always unwind approximately 12 inches and apply at desired stretch. For leg compression, currently recommended treatment involves applying at 50% stretch (pull to full stretch, then relax back 50%), with a 50% overlap. Some clinicians will apply Coban wrap at a more aggressive stretch, up to full stretch, depending on the clinical situation and clinician preference.
