Hollister Pouchkins Newborn One-Piece Flat Standard Wear Cut-To-Fit Ultra-Clear Drainable Pouch is designed for small infants. The skin barrier and pouch are separate and need to be assembled to be used as a one-piece pouching system. The SoftFlex barrier is a standard wear skin barrier that is gentle to the skin. The pouch has a drain tap at the bottom, which is compatible with a Luer-Lock syringe, which makes emptying easier when drainage is liquid.

What to buy with Hollister One-Piece Ostomy Pouch

How to use Hollister Pouchkins Newborn One-Piece?

Prepare the Skin Barrier and Pouch

  1. Measure the stoma using the measuring guide or use a pattern provided by your nurse.
  2. Trace the pattern onto the paper side of the skin barrier. The skin barrier should fit closely around the stoma.
  3. Using small curved scissors, carefully cut an opening in the skin barrier to match the pattern. Do not cut beyond the line on the release liner.
  4. Remove the release liner from the pouch.
  5. With the paper side of the skin barrier facing up, center the skin barrier on the adhesive of the pouch. Hold together for 10 seconds. No adhesive should be visible beyond the skin barrier.
  6. Remove the release liner from the skin barrier. Set aside with adhesive facing up. A close drain valve at bottom of the pouch by attaching the cap.

Remove Used Pouching System

  • Carefully lift an edge of the skin barrier and peel downward, gently pushing the skin away from the skin barrier. Properly dispose of used pouch. Do not flush down the toilet.
  • Clean the skin with water or with a gentle soap as recommended by your healthcare provider.
  • Rinse and dry thoroughly. Do not use oils, baby powder, lotion, or lotion-type soaps on the skin

Apply the New Pouching System

  • Center the skin barrier opening over the stoma.
  • Gently press the barrier against the skin until the entire barrier adheres.

Tips:

  • To connect the newborn pouch to tubing, detach cap from the bottom of the drain valve. Insert drain tube into drain valve and connect another end of tubing to a bedside receptacle
  • The newborn pouch has a spout at the bottom. If the discharge becomes too thick, you may cut off the bottom of the pouch at desired location.
  • Cut through the plastic pouch stabilizers located inside the pouch and remove them
  • Apply the closure included in the box.
  • If too much is cut off the pouch capacity will be diminished. Empty pouch when 1/3 full.
  • If the capacity is insufficient, consider a larger pediatric pouch
  • The skin around the stoma should not be irritated or broken. If the skin is irritated, contact a WOC Nurse or ostomy specialist
