Frequently asked questions

Trochanteric belts are supportive belts designed to limit movement of the SI joint in order to reduce painful symptoms. These belts are generally made of elastic or similar stretchy material, and worn snugly strapped around the hips.

Trochanter belts come standard with adjustable belt or Velcro fasteners that provide varied levels of compression and one size belt can fit anyone. When used as directed and consistently it adds support, reduces the amount of stress on the SI joint and promotes proper alignment of the pelvis.

Though individual cases may differ, Trochanter belts are usually recommended for a 10-day period of wearing the belt day and night, followed by 6-8 weeks of wearing the belt during weight-bearing hours only. Vigorous exercise is discouraged during this time.

During pregnancy ligaments become lax under hormonal influences and stretch in order to allow the pelvis to spread for delivery. It is recommended to hold the sacroiliac and pubic joints firmly together after the delivery in order to assist the ligaments in shortening and realigning the pelvis properly to the normal position.
