FAQ's

Frequently asked questions

Malnutrition is the state of being poorly nourished. It is not always the result of hunger or too little food available. Contributing factors in malnutrition may also include:

  • Unsuitable foods that do not provide sufficient protein, energy, or micronutrients
  • Inadequate care or feeding practices
  • Frequent infections or disease from inaccessible or poor health services
  • Unsafe water or insufficient sanitation systems.

Severe acute malnutrition is characterized by:

  • Severe wasting, that is measured by weight-for-height <70% or <-3SD, or MUAC <110mm for children 6 – 59 months,
  • Clinical signs of severe wasting
  • And/or edema in both feet

Children with mild or moderate wasting need just the right nutrition and building up. Since they are not severely wasted or oedematous, their body’s metabolism is reasonably intact and they should not need stabilizing.Such children must be given frequent feeds with high energy and high proteins that will provide the building blocks and energy for new tissue synthesis.

Common protein-energy malnutrition is indicated by decrease in subcutaneous fat, edema or swelling in the stomach, along with skin, hair and nail changes. Malnutrition during childhood may cause stunting and can have permanent developmental, neurological, and cardiovascular effects.

HPFY provides a range of products such as Dietary Powder for Infants and Toddlers, Fruit and Vegetable rich Dietary Supplements, protien supplements, calorie boosters etc. to meet nutritional needs in people with malnutrition.
