Hydrocellular Dressings

Hydrocellular wound dressings are made up of soft, hydrophilic polyurethane foam which is about 6 millimeters thick, covered with a semipermeable polyurethane film. This film is moisture permeable but provides an effective barrier for wound exudate. Also it provides protection from micro-organisms passage from the back of the dressing. At HPFY, we offer a wide range hydrocellular dressings from top-selling manufacturers like Smith & Nephew and Mckesson.

How do Hydrocellular Foam Dressings work?

The layer of dressing that contacts the wound surface is covered with a perforated film specially designed to keep the dressing from adhering to granulating tissue. The foam layer is highly absorbent, and strike-through is prevented by the semipermeable film backing. The dressing, when applied to an exuding wound, absorbs the excess fluid while maintaining a moist wound healing environment that is conducive to wound healing.

Indications for using Hydrocellular Dressings

Hydrocellular foam dressings can be applied to a variety of wounds with limited depth and varying levels of exudates, including leg ulcers (venous, arterial, diabetic, and pressure), surgical incisions, surgical excisions, minor burns, and donor sites.

How to use Hydrocellular Dressings?

  • A size of the dressing that must be chosen should overlap the edge of the wound by atleast 2-3 cm.
  • It should be placed with the perforated side on the wound and the pink surface facing outwards.
  • These are adhering dressings that maintain their position without the use of secondary dressings.
  • The frequency of change depends upon the nature of the wound and the amount of exudates.
  • In case of a clean non-infected wound, it can be left for up to four or five days while more frequent changes are required on infected or heavily exuding wounds.
