Description:

• Other attributes of the dressing include gentile self-debridement of necrotic tissue and odor control through prevention of the growth of odor causing bacteria on the sponge
• Dressings should be changed every 1 to 3 days following good wound care practice. In cases of high infection, the dressing may require more frequent change, which will be indicated by the dressing changing color from blue to white
• The pigments (methylene blue and gentian violet) have been used safely in medicine for over 50 years and have proven effective against a variety of microorganisms including MRSA and VRE

Indications:

• All wounds stages 1-4 (grades 1-6)
• Wounds infected with MRSA or VRE, staphylococcus, bacillus subtilis, staph aureus, serratia marcescens, staph epidermis, E-coli, pyoderma gangenosm
• Wet it with sterile saline or sterile water
• Squeeze it and leave some fluid in for drier wounds, squeeze almost dry for heavily exudating wounds
• Position it always in contact with wound surface and either place as packing or cover wound by overlapping wound edges by > 1"
• Cover it and hold in place using gauze for heavily exudating wounds and use vaseline gauze for moderate exudating wounds and clear film for drier wounds
• Make sure dressing does not dry
  Leave it for 1 to 3 days
  Change when area over wound is saturated
  Watch it when white or lightened spots appear on dressing
  Change to continue bacterial control regardless of time

Contraindications:

Hydrofera Blue is not recommended for use on third degree burn
