How to use CHAD Bonsai Velocity Pneumatic Oxygen Conserver?

  • Before opening the cylinder valve, make sure that the BONSAI VELOCITY conserver is set to the “OFF” position.
  • To reduce the risk of rapid oxygen recompression, open the cylinder valve slowly and completely so the pressure gauge moves slowly, indicating the cylinder pressure.
  • If a leak is present, close the cylinder valve, check the CGA seal, and reinstall.
  • If the leak persists, DO NOT USE THE EQUIPMENT.
  • Check the oxygen pressure gauge to verify that the pressure is within the operating range.
  • Select the setting on the BONSAI VELOCITY conserver to the appropriate delivery setting.
  • As with any nasal cannula, place the nasal cannula in position with the prongs in the nostrils and begin breathing.

Frequently Asked Questions

1. What is a conserver for oxygen?

An oxygen-conserving device works by sensing when you start breathing in, 'turning on' the flow of oxygen, and 'turning it off' when you breathe out. Approximately two-thirds of oxygen is saved, which dramatically increases the length of time cylinders of oxygen will last.

2. What is the difference between an oxygen regulator and a conserver?

A Regulator simply regulates the (free) flow from an oxygen cylinder. A Conserving Device is an entirely different kind of device that delivers a "pulse" of oxygen as the patient inhales (on demand). Regulators and Conserving Devices require a Physician's Rx.

3. What is the best way to conserve oxygen?

Getting into a rhythm and taking longer, deeper breaths will allow your body to absorb more oxygen. By exhaling fully, this will reduce the ''dead air'' volume and eliminate carbon dioxide. Reduced Carbon Dioxide levels will delay the urge to take another breath.

4. How do oxygen-conserving regulators work?

Conserving regulators use air pressure to determine when you need to take a breath. When you breathe out, the regulator senses this air and releases oxygen for you.
