Medifil II Particles Collagen Wound Dressing is a primary wound dressing. The Collagen Particle Dressing is made entirely of nonhydrolyzed type I bovine native collagen in its proper triple-helical molecular form. Kollagen, a proprietary technology process in Medifil II, improves wound stability and scaffolding in all four stages of healing. The collagen dressing is designed for wound healing. The increased surface area and density of collagen fibrils in the Medifil Particles allow more collagen to come into contact with the wound surface. Medifil Collagen Particles promote healing, reduce inflammation, and eliminate exudate.

Highlights of Medifil II

  • Particulated collagen in a powder form
  • Aids and supports the body's natural healing
  • Washes away easily with saline solution

Collagen Particles Instructions for Use

Dressing wear time should be based on the condition of the wound and clinical assessment. Always consult a physician for changes in wound condition and treatment plan monitoring and follow up:
-  Cleanse wound as per physician order: preferably normal saline or non-cytotoxic wound cleanser or wash
-  Line wound bed with Medifil II collagen particles up to 1/4 inch depth
-  Cover the wound with a secondary dressing: e.g. transparent, gauze, abdominal pad, foam, super-absorbent pad, hydrocolloid to promote thermoregulation and enhance wound healing

How To use Medifil II Particles

Step 1: Prepare the wound bed
Irrigates the wound with sterile water or saline until free of debris using controlled pressure so as not to cause new trauma to the wound.
- Blot wound edges dry
- If desired, apply an ointment/cream to the wound margin and also apply a topical medication to the wound bed (if needed)

Step 2: Application of Medifil II Particles
Apply Medifil II Particles to cover the wound surface:
- Minimally Draining Wounds: Light sprinkle of Medifil to cover the wound bed
- Moderately Draining Wounds: Cover wound bed 1/4" to 1/8" deep with Medifil pa
Do not pack the wound tightly with Medifil particles

Apply secondary dressing:
- Cover with a non-adherent absorbent dressing such as gauze or abdominal pads. Change when saturated
- Keep a moist wound environment
- If the wound is infected, change Medifil II Particles daily until the infection is resolved
-  If the wound is contaminated, change particles after each event and consider using a transparent film dressing like Tegaderm to protect the wound
-  If the wound is undermined and/or tunneled, combine Medifil II Particles with saline. Mix until it is thick, draw into a syringe and apply to tunneled areas. Gently pack the wound with gauze to eliminate dead space.

How to remove Medifil II Particles:
Irrigate wound with saline until dressing loosens and lift gently away
-  Minimally Draining Wounds: Dressings are changed every 2-3 days until the wound heals
-  Moderately Draining Wounds: Change dressings when saturated
-  Undermined/Tunneling Wounds: Flush daily with saline and re-apply Medifil II Particles
