Frequently asked questions

Hydrogel dressings provide hydration to the wound surface and help heal damaged skin layers, veins and tissues. These dressings offer a moist healing environment by regulating the exchange of fluid on the wound surface. Apart from several other compounds, hydrogel is made up of 90 percent of water which is suspended within a gel base. Certain hydrogels act as cooling agents and keeps down pain from the surrounding skin and wound healing surface for at least six hours. The gel within the hydrogel dressings helps fill in and pack wounds.

Hydrogel dressings are used to treat several types of wound including:

  • Dry or dehydrated wounds
  • Partial or full thickness lesions
  • Minor burns
  • Wounds with granulated tissue development
  • Radiation skin damage
  • Abrasions or severe scrapes
  • Painful wounds

Hydrogel dressings comprise 90 percent water in a gel base. The moist environment prevents bacterial infection of wounds thus encouraging efficient healing. The moisture assists in granulation, epidermis repair as well as removal of excess dead tissues.

Amorphous hydrogel dressings are water formulations, polymers and other ingredients with no shape. They provide moisture to dry wounds. The higher the moisture content the better the rehydration of wound tissue.
